I recently did a talk to a group who to my surprise sent me the following email a few days after the talk.
"On behalf of everyone a F & N group, I would like to thank you for giving us such a wonderful presentation of your photographs on Thursday last week.
So many people have commented on the wide variety of scenes and the beautiful skies. They also enjoyed hearing your anecdotes around some of the scenes.
The photos brought back happy memories for a lot of us.
Thank you again for getting our new session off to such a good start."
I did my talk My Hobby Photography (A reason to travel and more) to a camera club. A couple of days later I received a rather nice email from the club,
"Just a quick line to say many thanks for your visit last night. The members I spoke to were all very complimentary about your talk. Hope to see you again. Best Regards,"
Good evening Ian,
I'm writing to say thank you very much for coming to give a wonderful talk last night
on "Beautiful Britain". Such lovely photographs, I had a member say to me "it was like
a whirlwind holiday without leaving your seat" every picture was unique and transported
us to well know places and also little know places.
Thank you once again, I will be in touch in the near future for another talk.
Kind regards, Suzanne, Smisby WI
I recently had a short notice booking for a camera club who had been let down by their booked speaker. I used two of my short talks, one for each half. I thought it went OK as they were both travelogs, not the usual talks for camera club. To my surprise I received the following email from the club a couple of days afterward.
"Could I first of all apologise for not being at the meeting to meet you yesterday evening, Frustratingl I could have been at the meeting after all.
However I have been speaking to our Chairperson, and she has told me how brilliant you were. She said that other members had spoken to her and said how much they had enjoyed your talk and images. So many thanks for stepping in so quickly it is much appreciated. I am looking forward to your next talk already.
Best wishes,"
God morning Ian!
This is just to thank you for your excellent presentation last night.
That our members turned up in such numbers on what could only be
described as a filthy night was a tribute to you. I hope that you and
Helen got home safely, although the storm had abated somewhat by the
time the meeting finished.
Your presentation gave a whole new perspective to railway photography
and Chairman Jim was right in saying that you would have scooped the
board at our annual photo competition! We must all try harder!
I am sure that members, apart from their enjoyment of the evening, would
have learned something as well, particularly about composition and
atmosphere!
To be reminded of the progress the GCR had made with its infrastructure
over the years was quite enlightening although many of our members
regret the change in their policy about lineside photogaphy. I suspect
that the change is not so much due to health and safety, but to reduce
the beauracracy of managing the photographers!
Thank you again for your inspirational presentation.
I hope you will come back another time to give us more!
Kind regards

Recently I received an enquiry to give a talk. I was somewhat surprised to see the email contained the following sentence. "I was very impressed by the calibre of the images on your web-site and would aspire to doing something like those one day".
Good Afternoon Ian,
I hope you are well. I just wanted to let you know that we had some lovely feedback from members who thoroughly enjoyed your talk and everyone was very impressed with your beautiful photography. Thank you again for attending and being part of our programme this year.
Kind Regards,
Emma (July 2025)
